Former Scio resident Larry Mehl passed away in Sequim, Washington after a brief illness.

Larry was born on April 20, 1932 in Estacada, Oregon to William and Olive Mehl.

Larry met the love of his life, Jackee in 1955 on a blind date. They married on July 7, 1957 in Portland and moved to Scio in 1960.

Larry worked at Scio High School for 11 years teaching Agriculture, Shop and Social Studies. After leaving teaching in 1971, he worked for Industrial Welding Supply as a technical salesman and branch manager.

In 1989, Larry and Jackee opened Kits Camera of Albany. After selling the store, he and Jackee traveled the country as "NOMADS" helping remodel Methodist Churches. This included a trip to Liberia, Africa to help rebuild a school.

In addition to his busy work and family life, Larry enjoyed woodworking and flying and was very involved in his community as a long-time volunteer firefighter, former member of both Scio Fire District and Scio Mutual Telephone Association Boards of Directors, Lay Speaker for the Lebanon United Methodist Church and Past Master of Scio Masonic Lodge.

Larry will be remembered for his sense of humor and infectious smile, his devotion to his community and his love of family.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Jackee.

He is survived by his sons Bill and Pete; daughters-in-law Alice and Bonnie; granddaughters Ruth and Heather; and great-grandsons Jacob and Alex.
