Oregon State Police is continuing the investigation into a fatal motorcycle-involved traffic crash Saturday morning that resulted in the death of a 56-year old man on Highway 22 about five miles south of Highway 18 in Polk County.

Senior Trooper Bridget Taylor gave this account:

At about 11:45 a.m., a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle operated by Wade Wayne Winkle, 56, from northeast Salem, was westbound on Highway 22 near milepost 5 entering a right hand curve when it traveled straight into a guardrail along the eastbound shoulder. The motorcycle slid along the guardrail as Winkle was ejected and came to rest in the eastbound lane. Winkle was pronounced dead at the scene.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Polk County Sheriff's Office, West Valley Fire District and ODOT. One lane was reopened about 30 minutes after the crash. All lanes were open about 3 p.m.
