Thank you to donors of book
Lincoln Elementary School's Parent-Teacher Organization would like to thank all the businesses that donated books for the Book Exchange Nov. 30 during Lincoln's Family Night: The Book Bin, Oregon State University Bookstore, Border's Books, Browser's Bookstore, ARC of Benton County and The Cat's Meow. The book exchange was a big hit, and the students are eager to keep the exchange going. Thank you for making it possible!

Young Bakers deliver the dough
Maddy Corbin and Mary Valiant from Ashbrook Independent School presented Old Mill Center for Children and Families a check for $122.50 from a school bake sale. The girls, who wanted to support their community, rallied their fellow students to bake and buy the goodies. The bakers were actually the other fifth-grade girls in Miss Farley's classroom, who produced giant cookies, brownies and assorted goodies for the sale. Old Mill Center was selected as the recipient because of the neighborhood connection and services for children.

Jefferson parents, teachers say thanks
The PTA group at Jefferson Elementary School would like to thank all of the local merchants who have donated to our school through the scrip program and our new "Dine Out" fund-raiser days. The list of local scrip merchants is too long to list, but "Thank you!" to all of you for helping the Jefferson Parent and Teacher's group in this way.
A special thanks to Papa's Pizza and Baja Fresh for hosting "Dine Out with Jefferson" fundraisers this fall. Your donations are much appreciated!

Donation honored students' efforts
On behalf of all the students and staff at College Hill, we would like to express our gratitude for the generosity of Pappa's Pizza and the Safeway store at Circle Boulevard.
We appreciate the pizza that Papa's Pizza donated and the soda that Safeway donated for our incentive day celebration. As you know, we wanted to honor the students who have worked hard to earn credit towards their graduation requirements and GED. These are students who have struggled with school in the past for a variety of reasons, and success has not come easily to them. Having opportunities for recognition and celebration are important to their feelings of self-worth and are motivating. Their generosity has made this a possibility. Thank you for helping us!

Stone Soup is grateful for givers
Stone Soup, the Corvallis soup kitchen program, is fortunate to be here among such generous people. You support us year 'round with donations of food, money and labor for this all-volunteer effort. Thanks to you, we are able to provide a free, hot meal each day of the week now to those in need.
Thanks to you, also, we provided about 120 servings of a delicious, traditional Thanksgiving dinner on decorated tables. Potential volunteers had to be turned down because of the outpouring of help. We received turkeys and all of the trimmings from your donations. So much help came in that it would be difficult to thank everyone for the successful dinner, but we wish to especially note the help we got from Big River, Intaba's, Clodfelters and Zion Lutheran kindergarten students.
Our gratitude, of course, goes out to individuals, families, businesses and organizations who can be counted on throughout the year.

The Downtown Corvallis Association appreciates the group of volunteers for lending a helping hand this holiday season. For the "Breakfast with Downtown Gingerbear" event, special thanks to Bob and Dawn Burton and staff at Burton's Restaurant for holiday decor and for donating gingerbread for children to decorate. Thanks to Krista Washington for serving as the huggable Downtown Gingerbear and to Kara Cover and Alyssa Killen for assisting as elves; to Christina Chase for supervising cookie decorating and the downtown gingerbear coloring contest with help from Chelsey Nielson and Alyssa Killen.
Thanks to "story lady" Louise Johnson for entertaining with interactive stories and to Shayna Overbaugh, Patty Warr and the Heartland Humane Society for providing the cuddly kittens for children to pet.

Kids scaled heights at fitness center
On Nov. 12, Oregon State University's Dixon Recreation facility hosted young people who participate in Benton County's "Youth Incentive and Enrichment Program" at their indoor climbing facility.
Christie Deschesne, Beth Hawk and the tour guides and staff at Dixon's indoor climbing facility outfitted the young visitors with harnesses, outlined the safety rules and guided them in an hour's climbing lesson before giving them a tour of the recreation center. The Smoothie Stand donated blended fruit drinks.
The event was part of the enrichment program, which is run by the county's juvenile and mental health departments and the Education Service District to promote social activities as a reward for the young people enrolled.
This is the second time that OSU has opened its doors to the kids who participated, and they deserve thanks for their consideration and generosity.
