Alvin and Trinette Nicholson, Corvallis residents since 1946, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Nov. 23, 2009.

Alvin met the girl next door when they were both age 12, and they were married at 21 on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 1939, at the bride's family homestead in Astoria.

Growing up, Alvin worked for his father in the automobile industry, and joined the Oregon National Guard at the age of 15. At the outbreak of World War II, he was called to active duty as a motor pool officer, and retired as a 1st Lieutenant on a medical disability.

Following the war, Alvin moved his family to Corvallis at the request of Arnsbarger Motors to be their service manager, and continued as service manager for several major automotive dealerships in town until his retirement from Wilson Motors in 1981.

Trinette was a busy mother and homemaker. She enjoyed volunteering for her children's school functions, the Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary, the Oregon State University Mothers Club, and various activities at First United Methodist Church, where she is still a member.

As a couple, their activities have included lifetime membership in the Corvallis Elks Lodge since 1949; the Corvallis Aquathusiasts; the Corvallis Historic Auto Club; and the Corvallis Retired Military Officers Club. They are also active in the Willamette Valley Chapter of the 41st Division Association. Alvin built and raced a hydroplane while involved in the Aquathusiasts, and has also restored an award-winning 1936 Ford Roadster.

They have three children, two living in Portland and one in Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will hold an open-house reception in the spring.
