Police Log

This log includes incidents in which there might have been a public disturbance or a risk to the public. Information comes from the Corvallis Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. It does not include all calls for service. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate. People arrested or suspected in crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

Corvallis Police Department

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 17

ASSAULT: 5:39 a.m., 400 block of Northwest 14th Street, Corvallis. A woman reported she heard a gunshot and when she walked to the area, she saw a man assaulting a woman. She said she intervened and was pushed and kicked by the man. She reported the man ran away, and she heard another gunshot. She said the woman drove from the area. Police canvassed the area and reported it was apparent a struggle had occurred, but they did not find any witnesses. They also found no evidence to suggest gunshots were fired.

FALSE REPORT: 10 a.m., 2900 block of Northwest Satinwood Street, Corvallis. Police cited Matthew Monahan for initiating a false report. Monahan allegedly called his girlfriend and pretended to be a staff member at a group home where he works and reported his own death. The woman called police. Monahan reportedly admitted to making the call to get attention.

FRAUD: 12:35 p.m., 3800 block of Northwest Wisteria Way, Corvallis. A man reported someone used his credit card online to buy a “Porch Potty” for $282 and have it delivered to an address in Portland. Police determined the address was not accurate.

CAR VS PEDESTRIAN CRASH: 6:34 p.m., Northwest Buchanan Avenue and Northwest 16th Street, Corvallis. Police reportedly determined a woman, identified as Stacy Prowse-Perez, failed to stop at the crosswalk and struck a man who was walking across. The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. Police cited Prowse-Perez for failing to stop and remain stopped for a pedestrian.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18

HIT AND RUN: 1:15 p.m., Northwest Ninth Street and Northwest Spruce Avenue, Corvallis. Police cited Loi Chan for hit and run with injury after he allegedly left the scene of a car versus pedestrian crash.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19

FOUND ELK CARCASS: 11:07 a.m., 3200 block of Northwest 13th Street, Corvallis. Police responded to a report of an elk carcass and found that the elk had been cleaned, the meat removed from the bone and the antlers removed. The remains were in the middle of the road near the park. Police notified the Fish and Wildlife Division at Oregon State Police.

VIOLENT CONDUCT: 10 p.m., Northwest Buttercup Drive and Northwest Boxwood Drive, Corvallis. Three boys reported that on the night before, a man chased them around their neighborhood. Police reportedly discovered the man to be Xiaoyu Shi. Shi reportedly told police he chased the kids because he thought he heard them standing on his property. Police cited Shi for violent conduct.

COUNTERFEIT MONEY: 1:43 p.m., 2600 block of Northwest Ninth Street, Corvallis. An employee of 7-11 reported someone had used a fake $20 bill at the store. The employee did not know when the bill was accepted or who had tendered it. Police collected the bill and entered it into evidence.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: 6:31 p.m., 1600 block of Southeast Bethel Street, Corvallis. Police responded after a man reported he saw someone shining a flashlight onto the door of his neighbor’s house. The man said his neighbor is out of town. Police responded to the area but did not find the suspect. It did not appear the door had been tampered with.

Benton County Sheriff’s Office

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18

DUII: 12:04 a.m., Northwest Monroe Avenue and Northwest Seventh Street, Corvallis. A deputy stopped a car for reportedly driving without required lighting. The deputy arrested the driver, Nash James Neves Claycamp, 19, of Corvallis, for driving under the influence of intoxicants. Claycamp did not have alcohol in his system. A drug influence expert reportedly determined Claycamp was under the influence of cannabis.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19

DUII: 1:15 a.m., Northwest Harrison Boulevard and Northwest Second Street, Corvallis. A deputy stopped a car for reportedly failing to obey a one way designation. The deputy arrested the driver, Dale Andrew Brainerd, 61, of Anchorage, Alaska, for driving under the influence of intoxicants. Brainerd reportedly had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.12 percent.

DUII: 2:28 a.m., Northeast Circle Boulevard and Northeast Conser Street, Corvallis. A deputy stopped a car for reportedly making an improper turn and failing to drive within its lane. The deputy arrested the driver, Kathleen M. Chabreck, 20, of Tigard, for driving under the influence of intoxicants. Chabreck reportedly had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.13 percent.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 20

FAILURE TO REGISTER AS SEX OFFENDER: 12:25 a.m., Northwest Highway 20 and Milepost 7, Albany. A deputy stopped a car for speeding. The deputy determined a passenger in the car, Caleb Ray Barney, 31, of Philomath, had a warrant for his arrest for allegedly failing to register as a sex offender. The deputy took Barney to the Linn County Jail.

Oregon State Police

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 17

CRASH: 1:58 p.m., Southwest 30th Street and Southwest Campus Way, Corvallis. A construction crane was turning west onto Southwest Campus Way when the tail end of the crane reportedly struck a tree on Southwest 30th Street and knocked it down. No one was injured and troopers issued the driver a warning. The driver also exchanged information with OSU representatives so the tree could be replaced.
