Police canvassed the neighborhood around 635 N.W. Fifth St. on Sunday to learn more about serious injuries suffered by a Corvallis woman after an apparent fall Saturday night.

Crime was ruled out as a factor in head injuries sustained by Melena L. Loftis, 35, of Corvallis, Corvallis Police spokesman Dave Henslee said on Monday.

Loftis apparently fell from a second-story apartment balcony Saturday night.

Early reports said Loftis' injuries were potentially life-threatening.

She was recovering at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center on Monday, Henslee said.

Hospital officials would not release information about her condition.

An investigation into the incident found that the balcony outside the apartment was intact.

"It just looks like she fell," Henslee said.
