BEND — Crescent Valley High’s sensational season came to an end with a 2-0 loss at No. 2 seed Summit in the semifinals of the OSAA 5A girls soccer tournament on Tuesday evening.
It’s the second straight season the Raiders have fallen in the semifinals; last year they lost 2-0 to No. 1 seed and eventual champion La Salle Prep.
CV, which was the No. 3 seed and won the Mid-Willamette Conference title, finishes the season 14-1-1.
Summit, which lost at home in last year’s semifinals as the No. 2 seed to MWC member Silverton, 4-3, struck first in the 20th minute.
Molly Day intercepted a short goal kick and, after running with a defender on her hip for about 15 yards, coaxed the right-footed shot into the right side of the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Storm (15-2) made it 2-0 about six minutes later when Michaela Gorman headed in a corner kick from Haley Tobiason.
CV keeper Peyton Dale did all she could to keep the Raiders in the game, making eight of her 11 saves in the first half, when the Storm outshot CV 17-1 with 10 on goal.
The two goals are the most the Raiders allowed in a game all season; they entered having allowed just four total in 15 matches.
CV had 11 shutouts on the season.
Summit has not allowed a goal in three playoff games and has seven straight shutouts. The Storm have won 12 straight and will face North Eugene, a 2-1 winner over Sandy, in Saturday’s title game.
