Oregon State University has begun an Recyclemania Civil War competition this week. The event pits OSU against the University of Oregon to see which university can recycle more material per student in 10 weeks.
OSU has competed in the national Recyclemania competition since 2005, but added the Civil War component in 2010. OSU won the last two Recyclemania battles with UO. Last year, OSU’s Campus Recycling collected 350,000 pounds or about 15 pounds per student. UO collected about 255,000 pounds or 10 pounds per student.
The winner of the competition receives a trophy made of recycled materials.
Recycled materials are collected at normal locations by Campus Recycling. For information see recycle.oregonstate.edu.
