A 46-year-old Tangent man is in jail after allegedly attempting to stab a co-worker at a Corvallis construction site.

Corvallis police were called at 10:05 a.m. to the site of a home under construction in the 2800 block of Northwest Margarita Place, where they found two construction workers holding down a fellow employee who had assaulted and tried to stab one of them, according to a news release issued Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Ignacio Cervantez Castaneda, reportedly had a concealed .32-caliber pistol in his waistband, and a folding knife was recovered from the scene, according to police. Lt. Dan Duncan, a spokesman for the Corvallis Police Department, said Cervantez Castaneda did not have a concealed-carry permit.

Cervantez Castaneda was arrested on charges of attempted assault in the second degree, fourth-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful use of a firearm. He is being held in the Benton County Jail on $200,000 bail.
