The Corvallis Fire Department conducts an annual fall door-to-door campaign to increase smoke alarm awareness. Volunteer firefighters and members of Oregon State University sororities visit student residences in the near-campus neighborhoods.
Fire Prevention Officer Jim Patton announced that this year’s campaign, conducted Oct. 19, included visits to more than 450 dwellings. The volunteer crews tested 375 smoke alarms and found that 34 were inoperative.
The nonfunctioning units either were replaced or received a fresh battery.
Sororities participating were Alpha Gamma Delta, Kappa Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Delta Gamma, Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Alpha Theta and Sigma Kappa.
