The urban renewal district is equivalent to a personal savings account. It is as if you had your yearly cost of living increases automatically put into an account for savings. Some years would be better than other years. These savings could be used for car repairs, college for your children, a house remodel or upkeep, you get the idea. Isn't this prudent fiscal planning?
Don't you want to be prepared to take care of your family and home?
Why would we not want to do that for our downtown to keep our city healthy?
Recent letters to the editor have sensationalized effects of the urban renewal plan. It does not divert funds from schools. There are no new taxes involved. Mistrust abounds when it shouldn't. This is a plan supported by many credible people and organizations (www.heartofcorvallis.org). Who do you trust?
