Letter: Status of U.S. health care continues to be outrageous (Nov. 4)

It's a moral outrage when 45,000 residents of this great country die needlessly each year because of lack of access to health care (recent Harvard study); when 47,000 people are uninsured and nearly that many more are UNDERinsured (Harvard study); when medical bills are the No. 1 reason for bankruptcies and 75 percent of these people had health insurance! (Harvard study); when an increasing number of middle-income persons (not just low-income persons), are now using the emergency room for their primary care.

It's a moral outrage AND time for each one of us to demand that our congressional representatives pass comprehensive health care reform NOW that results in affordable, quality health care for everybody .... everybody in, nobody out! (Capitol switchboard in D.C. 202-224-3121.)

If you need more proof of what's wrong with America's healthcare AND you want to learn how to fix it, watch for the upcoming announcement of the showing of "Money-driven Medicine" at the local free cinema (our Corvallis-Benton County Public Library).

The film is based on the critically acclaimed book by the same name, written by investigative reporter Maggie Magar; excerpts of the film were shown recently on Bill Moyers' OPB show.
