Trunk or Treat: Grace Lutheran Church, 435 N.W. 21st St., will hold a Trunk or Treat and Tailgate Party in its parking lot three hours before Oregon State University game time today. Come in costume or not; decorate your vehicle's trunk; and bring treats for the children. There will also be a tailgate party.
Harvest Carnival: Kings Circle Assembly of God, 2110 N.W. Circle Blvd., will host a family harvest carnival from 6 to 8 p.m. today. The event will include games, a toddler bounce castle, puppet shows and storytelling, food, prizes and more. All children must be accompanied by an adult. All Saints' Day service: First Congregational United Church of Christ, 4515 S.W. West Hills Road, will observe All Saints' Day at 10:30 a.m. Sunday with a traditional lighting of candles, and names of personal saints read during communion. This service will also focus on the tradition of New Orleans-style jazz, with a jazz band comprised of community members, the choir, and a women's quintet.
"The Simple 1, 2, 3 Theory of Everything": Award-winning author and speaker Richard Blackstone will present a message and workshop for those seeking clarity about life, love and how the universe works. The message, set for 10:30 a.m. Sunday, is at the Unity Center for Spiritual Living meeting at Corvallis Senior Center, 2601 N.W. Tyler Ave. The workshop, from 1 to 3 p.m., costs $20, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Presbyterians feature jazz: The Black Swan Classic Jazz Band will lead the music at the 11 a.m. service Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church, 114 S.W. Eighth St. The band will feature jazz gospel music. At 2 p.m., the group will present a concert of Dixieland and early swing music. Both events are free and open to the public. Local musician Steve Matthes plays clarinet for the band, which is based in Portland.
Concert and raffle: The sixth annual Founders' Day Concert and Celebration is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Benedictine Sisters' Queen of Angels Monastery Chapel, 840 S. Main St., Mt. Angel. The concert is presented by the sisters and the Queen of Angels Oblates to thank God for the sisters' 127-year history and service to others. A freewill offering will be taken. Taizé prayer service: The Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan, 333 N.W. 35th St., will host a contemplative, ecumenical worship service with singing and prayers at 7 p.m. Sunday. The monthly event, sponsored by the Corvallis Taizé Ensemble, is open to the public. Information: 753-7622.
Surviving the Holidays: Healing Hearts Ministries will present a class, "Surviving the Holidays After Separation or Divorce," from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Monday at W4 House, west campus, Northwest Hills Community Church, 3300 N.W. Walnut Blvd. It is geared for those going through a separation, divorce or grief over loss of a loved one. The "GriefShare: Surviving the Holidays" video, discussion group and devotional material are designed to help participants not only survive the holidays, but find strength, healing and tools to move forward. In Stitches: Those who knit and crochet are invited to join In Stitches, a project-based, contemplative group. This fall the group is working on scarves and hats for Community Outreach. Omelet dinner: College United Methodist Church, 1123 Main St., Philomath, will hold its monthly omelet dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the church's social hall. A regular omelet is $5; a deluxe omelet, which includes scones and gravy, is $6; a child's omelet for age 10 or under is $4; a side of scones and gravy is $4. Meals include fresh fruit, freshly baked scones, and a beverage. Dessert is available for an extra charge.
Insights discovery workshop: Shalom Prayer Center in Mt. Angel will offer a workshop, "Insights Discovery," from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13. Insights discovery is a personality profiling tool based on the work of Carl Jung. The presenter is Sue Schneider, an independent consultant focusing on high-performance teams, strategic planning and organization design/development. Cost is $60, plus a $65 fee for the Discover Profile, which each participant fills out online prior to the workshop. The registration deadline is Friday. This program is a good accompaniment to the Insights Discovery workshop offered the previous day, but can be taken separately. It helps adherents develop a mindset that focuses on what is going well. Presenters are Sue Schneider and Dorothy Jean Bayer, Order of St. Benedict. The $60 fee includes lunch; registration by Wednesday is encouraged. A discount is offered for those taking both workshops.
