I have to disagree with the Gazette-Times' endorsement of Mike Riley coming for the third time to coach the Beavers football team. Enough is enough! Twelve years is enough! Let's move forward, Coach Smith.
Riley's college coaching record is just better than .500. Nebraska tolerated a .500 record coach for only three years; why does Oregon State look the other way? Is OSU still thinking of itself as the sleepy college town in the Pac-12? Sorry, those empty seats at Reser Stadium, for which the football team tries to charge premium prices, tell the story. Coach Riley left the well dry four years ago when he bolted for greener pastures and bigger paydays at Nebraska. Recruiting was in the tank. The recruits that Coach Riley was able to sign up four years ago found out the hard way that college football is a money business. Coach Riley has proved that twice during his tenures at OSU. Let's move forward, Coach Smith, and not relive the past.
