I have sent this suggestion to Oregon State University, but campus officials may not take it seriously.
When renaming various buildings on campus, I have a suggestion for one of them, possibly Benton Hall. Let's name it, or another classroom and office building, "Some Old Professor Hall." This eliminates a specific person, who even if respected and loved now, may not be in the future as the culture and mores change.
It also can be viewed as a way to honor all the professors, men and women, who toil, sometimes without tenure, teaching, researching and advising students for many years, working 50- to 60-hour weeks. My husband was one such person and there were many colleagues of his who did the same. We should honor and thank them all. Without the professors (here I include part-time instructors as well), there would be no classes and no research.
