A Jan. 8 letter about reasons to back Ballot Measure 101 purports to explain the measure for those of us who are confused by saying that the fee charged to some organizations to pay for 101 is not a tax. And that the fee really does not matter since the federal government will supply most of the funding.
But, of course, the government does not have any money at all. The money it provides comes from taxes that we pay.
I am not against funding health care as in the long run; it is a good investment. But we need to be honest about funding. Everything the state or federal government supplies comes out of our pockets.
