Regarding Dana Milbank's opinion page column, published in the Gazette-Times on Aug. 16: Mr. Milbank wants all the enthusiasm, organizational skills and small dollar contributions of Bernie Sanders supporters to not threaten the Democratic Party's ability to reclaim Congress in 2018. I say it is just the reverse. It is exactly the issues, values and energy from the grass roots, which Bernie Sanders encourages for all Americans, which will be future of the Democratic Party. Without it, the old guard and their corporate donors will continue to lose elections at the local, state and national levels and hemorrhage membership to other parties and nonaffiliation. The days of two viable political parties and their corporate donors controlling everything are ending. It is time for opinion writers and party leaders to wake up where the better deal is rising.
