Benton County Sheriff deputies arrested a man Thursday in Philomath after he allegedly seriously injured a man with a machete.
Wyatt Isaac Arnold, 20, faces three counts of first-degree assault and one count of unlawful use of a weapon, according to Circuit Court records. Arnold, whom the sheriff’s office describes as transient, pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment Thursday.
According to the incident report, deputies responded about 1:50 a.m. Thursday to a home on the 22600 block of Hoskins Road. The report alleges Arnold struck 27-year-old Ian Stanley Chapman, of Corvallis, multiple times in the head with a machete following a disturbance. The report does not offer details on the disturbance.
A preliminary hearing to establish probable cause in Arnold’s case is set for Monday. Court-appointed attorney Clark Willes is representing Arnold. Deputy District Attorney Kristen Farnworth is prosecuting the case.
