Editor’s note: This log includes incidents in which there might have been a public disturbance or risk to the public. Information comes from the Philomath Police Department and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. It does not include all calls for service. The status of incidents might change after further investigation. Locations are approximate. People arrested or suspected in crimes are considered innocent until proven otherwise.

FRIDAY, JULY 7

NOISE COMPLAINT: Philomath Police responded at 10:18 p.m. to an address on the 100 block of South 11th Street for a loud noise complaint, but the officer didn’t hear any noises and no one answered the door.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON: Philomath Police responded at 11:28 p.m. to the 400 block of South 15th Street for a report of a suspicious person, but neighbors said the individual left the area before police arrived.

SATURDAY, JULY 8

SUSPICIOUS NOISES: Philomath Police responded at 4:30 a.m. to a report of a possible prowler in the backyard of a residence on the 400 block of South 19th Street. The caller did not actually see anyone but heard noises in the backyard. Police checked the area and didn’t find anyone.

SUNDAY, JULY 9

DUII: Benton County sheriff deputies arrested Jennifer Stallings, 21, no city of residence listed, on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants. The arrest took place at 1:12 a.m. near the intersection of Main Street and South 12th Street.

PUBLIC ASSISTANCE: An intoxicated man reported to Philomath Police at 3:15 a.m. that his vehicle had been stolen. Officers learned that the man had actually forgotten where he parked the vehicle at the Philomath Frolic and Rodeo, and they helped him find it.

FALSE ALARM: Philomath Police responded at 7:18 a.m. for an activated burglar alarm at Jona’s Market. An employee accidentally tripped the alarm.

DISTURBANCE: Philomath Police responded at 12:32 p.m. to an address on the 2700 block of Newton Street for a report of a disturbance. The officer learned it was an argument between a mother and her adult son over him moving out, and that no crime had been committed.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: Philomath Police responded at 10:34 p.m. to an address on the 1300 block of Houser Lane for a report of a possible prowler. Police found only an elderly woman in the area who was walking her dog.

MONDAY, JULY 10

THEFT: Philomath Police arrested 22-year-old Laura Kalea Ruhl of Philomath on felony charges of theft, burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief. Additional investigation during the arrest at a residence on the 1000 block of Applegate Street led police to book Ruhl on additional charges of possession of methamphetamine and a schedule 4 controlled substance, but the Benton County District Attorney’s Office declined to file the drug charges.

DISTURBANCE: Philomath Police responded at 7:59 p.m. to an address on the 100 block of North Seventh Street for a report of a disturbance. Officers determined it was only a verbal argument and that no crime had been committed.

PUBLIC ASSISTANCE: A Philomath police officer helped unlock someone’s vehicle at the Marys Peak True Value hardware store parking lot after the keys were left inside.

TUESDAY, JULY 11

TRAFFIC CRASH: A Philomath police officer responded at 8:13 a.m. to an address on the 1200 block of North 19th Street to speak to someone in regards to a traffic accident. No other information was included in the media release.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 12

WARRANT ARREST: Philomath Police arrested Jeremiah Jones, 28, of Toledo, on a felony warrant issued by Lincoln County Circuit Court. The arrest took place at 10:30 a.m. at an address on the 1000 block of Applegate Street.

VIOLATING RELEASE AGREEMENT: Philomath Police received information regarding an individual allegedly contacting someone who the individual was court-ordered not to contact as part of a release agreement from jail. The alleged violation was still being investigated at the time of the media release.

BARK DUST FIRE: Extinguished before arrival, 6:51 p.m., 1400 block of Main Street.

TUESDAY, JULY 11

FUEL SPILL: 8:15 a.m., 1200 block of North 19th Street.

HOUSE FIRE (MUTUAL AID): 4:59 p.m., 35400 block of Norton Creek Road, Blodgett.

SMOKE INVESTIGATION: 7:06 p.m., 24000 block of Grange Hall Road.
