Philomath's Greg Gerding was among 30 elected school board members from around the state recently recognized with a bronze award for completing course work through the Oregon School Boards Association's Leadership Institute.

The awards, presented Nov. 11 at OSBA's 71st annual convention in Portland, recognize board members for significant levels of achievement in leadership and development. There are four levels — bronze, silver, gold and platinum.

Jim Green, OSBA's executive director, congratulated recipients.

"This award recognizes those local school board members whose volunteer service and dedication help create a better future for Oregon's children," he said.

OSBA is a member services agency for more than 200 locally elected boards serving school districts, education service districts and community colleges. It also provides services to charter schools and their boards.
