Library plans

pair of events

The Philomath Community Library, 1050 Applegate St., is planning a pair of events this week:

• "Crafts & Coffee," Thursday, Oct. 12, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Adults ages 16 and up are invited to join in a low-key morning of art, coloring, conversation, music, and treats. Art supplies on hand, but participants can bring their own. People are encouraged to bring their projects to show and share. Additionally, a supply-sharing table will be available for people to donate supplies that are no longer needed.

• "Leap Into Reading Book Club," Friday, Oct. 13, from 1 to 2 p.m. Children in kindergarten through second grade are invited to the library for a discussion, craft, activities, and snack. This month's book is "Ten Apples Up On Top" by Theo LeSieg. Participants can pick up a copy of the book any time at the Philomath Community Library information desk.

Training set

for tax aides

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program in Linn and Benton counties needs tax preparation volunteers and will be holding informational sessions in the coming weeks for those with an interest.

An informational session is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Philomath Community Library, 1050 Applegate St. If people can't attend that one, another will be hosted Nov. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Corvallis Senior Center (2601 NW Tyler Ave.).

Tax-Aide is a free program that makes it easier for older, low-income taxpayers to file their tax returns and get credits and deductions they have earned.
