Gordon Ross, long time Philomath resident, passed away in Corvallis on Sept. 9, 2017 at the age of 89.
Gordon was born to Fred and Goldie Ross in Burns. He spent his early years in Burns before moving to Lyle, Washington where he completed high school. It was there that he met Nita Pitman and on March 5, 1950 they were married in White Salmon, Washington.
Gordon began his career as a sawyer in his family’s lumber mill in Lyle at the age of 17.
In 1956, the family moved to Philomath where he continued his career in the lumber industry, working at several local mills until his retirement in 1992.
Gordon enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, motorcycles, remote control aircraft, and spending time with friends and family.
Gordon is survived by his two daughters; Carol Mahr and husband Ed of Albany and Marilyn Ross (deceased fiancé Michael Wooley) of Philomath; grandson Jeff Mahr of Monmouth; great-granddaughter Alyssa Mahr of Albany; brother and sister-in-law Ron and Connie Ross of Arizona; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Goldie Ross; in-laws Tom and Delores Pitman; and his wife Nita Ross who passed away in April 2016.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 23 at Peace Lutheran Church in Philomath with Pastor Jeremy Lucke presiding.
