PHILOMATH PUBLIC ART COUNCIL, PROVIDED

The Benton County Cultural Coalition announced last week the awarding of $15,000 in grants for the 2018 season, including two that went to Philomath-based organizations.

The Philomath Public Arts Council received a $1,500 grant to purchase the Applegate Trail artwork that was erected last year in Dale Collins Readerboard Park.

"With the award of this grant, the Philomath Public Arts Council will be able to complete payment for the sculpture ahead of the two-year timeframe that was originally contracted with Karen Lee-Thompson," the arts council's Ruth Post said. "We’re very excited about being able to secure this beautiful piece for the permanent enjoyment of Philomath citizens and visitors."

Marys River Quilt Guild also received $1,500, which will go toward the organization's Quilts in the Garden program. The event, which began in 1997, features quilts that are paired with scenic gardens with a particular theme. In 2016, there were six gardens on the tour showcasing 300 quilts.
