Fall Festival Run set for Sept. 27

Entries are open for the 31st Fall Festival Run, which will be held Sunday, Sept. 27.

Three distances are offered: a kids 1,000-meter run; a 5K; and a 10K for runners only. Walkers are welcome in both the 1K and 5K races.

Registration is available online at www.kiwaniscor vallis.org/Road_Runs or from a printed entry form. Entry forms can be mailed or dropped off at Five Star Sports, at Second and Madison.

Online registration before midnight, Sept. 20, is $22 with a shirt or $12 without; paper registration is $25 with a shirt and $15 without. All late registrations are without a shirt and are $15 online or $25 by paper form.

Pre-registered participants can pick up packets on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Five Star Sports.

Claitt signs with Danish team

Former Oregon State men's basketball player Rickey Claitt has signed with Horsens IC of Horsens, Denmark, a professional team in the Denmark-Basketligaen League.

Horsens IC is a four-time Danish League champion, won the title in 2006 and advanced to the Danish Cup finals in 2008.

Claitt lettered in 2008 and 2009 and helped lead the Beavers to the College Basketball Invitational championship as a senior, when he averaged 7.4 points and 2.6 assists while shooting .559 from the field. He scored a career-high 28 points and was 5-for-6 on 3-point shots and 8-for-9 overall against UTEP in the CBI championship game.

Claitt averaged 5.4 points in 67 career games.

Punt, Pass & Kick competition Saturday

The Corvallis Parks & Recreation Department's annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Garfield Park. It is free and open to boys and girls age 8 through 15.

Registration is also available for the grades 1-2 and 3-5 flag football programs and for the grades 3-5 and 6-8 volleyball programs. Players in both sports practice twice a week after school and play games on Saturday mornings.

Programs begin Oct. 5; registration is available at the Parks & Rec office in Avery Park. For more information, call 766-6918.

Oregon State baseball clinics planned

The Oregon State baseball team will hold All-Skills Baseball Camps for players in grades 2-8 at Goss Stadium on Tuesdays between Sept. 15 and Nov. 24.

Sessions last from 5:15 p.m.-7 p.m. and cost $10 apiece; scholarships are available.

OSU coaches and players will be the instructors. Registration forms are available on osubeavers.com, as well as a medical release form, which must be filled out and brought to the camp to check in.

Thomas third at state horseshoe tourney

BEND - Corvallis' Rod Thomas finished third in the Men's C classification at the 86th Oregon Horseshoe Pitchers Association state singles tournament this past weekend at Juniper Park.

Six mid-valley residents competed in the tournament, with two Albany pitchers taking second place. John Adams tied for the Men's B title and lost a playoff game, while Cliff Amsbaugh was runnerup in the Men's A-30 foot division.

Thomas had the high game of his class - 56 percent ringers - qualifying for the OHPA special recognition award for pitching a game 28 percent over his entering average.

Jim Postell of Corvallis was fourth in Men's B and Tyler Witherspoon of Albany placed sixth in the Junior division.

Roy Bowers of Malin had the first perfect game in the event's history on his way to the Men's A-30 title.
