The Oregon State men's basketball program has received an oral commitment from 6-foot-9, 215-pound center/power forward forward Devon Collier of St. Anthony's High School in Jersey City, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.
He chose the Beavers over St. John's, Seton Hall and Providence and was also being recruited by Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and West Virginia. St. Anthony's is coached by former Duke star Bobby Hurley; Collier played for the New Heights AAU club team back in New Jersey and also played at All-Hallows High School in New York City before transferring to St. Anthony's, one of the top high school programs in the country.
The Scout.com recruiting service describes Anthony as a four-star recruit.
NCAA rules prohibit coaches from commenting on recruits until the have received a signed letter of intent. The early signing period for basketball starts on Nov. 11.
OSU is also expected to sign 5-8 point guard Ahmad Starks of Whitney Young High School in Chicago. He originally committed to OSU in August 2008.
