Running back Ashton Jefferson and linebacker Reggie Williams are off the Oregon State football team, the university confirmed.
Coach Mike Riley said earlier this week a decision about two players who may be off the team was forthcoming. Riley said at the time that two freshmen got into trouble during the five-day Las Vegas Bowl trip Dec. 19-23.
Jefferson and Williams sat out last season as redshirt players. Jefferson, from Alvin, Texas, was on scholarship and Williams was a walk-on from Rialto, Calif.
OSU said they are off the team for violating team rules. Riley has strict behavioral standards and has a near-zero tolerance police for drugs and alcohol.
Jefferson was looked at as a potential No. 3 ball carrier this season as true freshman during training camp before moving to the scout team. He broke a bone in his foot and missed much of practice the second half of the season. Williams had been hampered with injuries from the start.
Jefferson's departure gives the Beavers 15 available scholarships next season. With the five greyshirts joining the team in the winter or spring and 10 known verbal commitments, the Beavers are right at their scholarship limit.
Quizz at Camp
Running back Jacquizz Rodgers will be part of the 43rd annual Walter Camp Foundation awards ceremony Jan. 14-16 at Yale.
Rodgers was a second-team Walter Camp All-American. The ceremony also includes celebrities such as John Elway, Tony Dorsett and Lincoln Kennedy.
