PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The Oregon State softball team lost both games on Saturday at the Cathedral City Classic.

The Beavers fell to Northwestern 8-4 before losing to Long Island 3-0.

In the first game, the Wildcats hit back-to-back home runs off Marina Demore in the first inning.

The Beavers (5-3) took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Paige Hall scored on an error and Nikki Chandler hit a two-run single.

But Northwestern added two runs in the third, fifth and seventh to take control.

In the second game, the Beavers threatened several times against Long Island but could not push a run across the plate and suffered their first shutout loss of the season.

The Beavers finish play at the classic Sunday against Fresno State.
