The Oregon State football team received a verbal commitment from place-kicker Trevor Romaine, according to the Riverside Press-Enterprise in Southern California.

Romaine, the Corona Centennial High kicker and punter, accepted the scholarship offer from special teams coach Bruce Read on Wednesday night.

He visited the Beavers during the summer and was impressed with the program, he told the newspaper.

Romaine has made 4 of 5 of his field goal attempts this season with a long of 52 yards. He has put all of his kickoffs into or beyond the end zone, and averages 41.6 yards a punt.

He has 170 extra points, and needs nine more for the CIF-Southern Section record.

Romaine is a friend of former OSU kicker Alexis Serna, who grew up in the same area.

The Beavers have eight verbal commitments for the 2010 class. They are at their scholarship limit, but will most likely add more if standout athletes become available.
