The Oregon State football team completed its 2011 schedule by adding Football Championship Subdivision team Sacramento State for the Sept. 3 season opener at Reser Stadium, athletic director Bob De Carolis announced Monday.
Sacramento State went 6-5 in 2010, its first winning season since 2000. The Hornets finished in a three-way tie for third place in the Big Sky Conference at 5-3.
The three conference losses were by a combined 10 points, including an overtime loss to eventual Big Sky champion Montana State and a narrow setback to FCS playoffs semifinalist Eastern Washington.
This will be the second meeting between the two teams. The first was a 40-7 win by OSU on Aug. 30, 2003. The game was the beginning of coach Mike Riley’s second tenure as the coach of the Beavers.
Derek Anderson threw for 273 yards and two touchdowns, Steven Jackson rushed for 129 yards and two TDs and Mike Hass had six receptions for 129 yards and a score.
The Beavers also face Wisconsin in Madison and Brigham Young at home in nonconference games.
OSU opens the inaugural Pac-12 Conference season Sept. 24 at home against UCLA in a non-divisional game. The first divisional game in the Pac-12 North will be Oct. 22 against Washington State at Qwest Field in Seattle.
