COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Oregon State women's golf team is in position to post another top-five finish after playing well on Saturday at the competitive Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational.
The Beavers shot a 20-over 301-295—596 in the 6-count-4 format at the par-72, 6,319 Ohio State University Golf Club and sit in fifth place with 18 holes to play.
No. 29 Illinois leads the 14-team field with a 3-over 579, while No. 16 Kent State is second with a 9-over 585, No. 12 Michigan State is third with a 16-over 592 and No. 15 Washington is fourth with a 17-over 593.
The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. ET on Sunday.
Freshman Amanda Minni led the Beavers with a 2-over 76-70—146 to put her in a tie for eighth place. Freshman Ellie Slama was steady as usual with a pair of 2-over 74's and is tied for 13th place with a 4-over 148. She has a chance to record her third career top-10 finish.
Senior Susie Cavanagh played better in the afternoon and that helped her jump 25 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 20th place with a 5-over 77-72—149.
Sophomore Nicole Schroeder is tied for 40th place with a 9-over 74-79—153, junior Olivia Benzin is tied for 54th with a 12-over 77-79—156 and sophomore Mari Nishiura finished the 36-hole day with a 22-over 82-84—166.
Men
TEMPE, Ariz. — Kyosuke Hara and Shawn Lu each posted a 3-under 139 at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational on Saturday to lead Oregon State.
Hara posted scores of 71-68 and Lu had rounds of 73-66 at the par-71, 7,032-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course to put both of them in a tie for ninth place.
Lu will go for this third consecutive top-10 finish after placing in a tie for fifth at the Duck Invitational and a tie for 10th at The Goodwin. Hara has recorded one career top-10 finish, a tie for sixth as a freshman at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational.
The Beavers sit in eighth place, and ahead of three Pac-12 teams — Utah, Colorado and Washington State — after shooting a 3-over 290-281—571. The 3-under 281 in the afternoon was tied for the third-best second-round score in the 17-team field.
Arizona State and UNLV share the team lead with an 18-under 550, while Shintaro Ban of UNLV and Yannik Paul of Colorado lead a packed grouping for the individual crown with a 9-under 133.
The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 7 a.m. on Sunday.
Freshman Spencer Tibbits is tied for 48th place with a 4-over 71-75—146, junior Trevor Yu is a stroke back with a 5-over 75-72—147 for a tie for 52nd and freshman Keaton Gudz is in a tie for 79th with a 12-over 77-77—154,
