SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Oregon State senior All-American Kaytianna McMillan was named Pac-12 gymnast of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
McMillan, who is majoring in human development and family sciences with an option in human services and a minor in psychology, helped lead the 11th-ranked Beavers past No. 4 Utah by the narrowest of margins, 196.550-196.525, Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers led the meet throughout the afternoon, but when McMillan stepped onto the floor for the final floor routine she needed a 9.925 to send her team to victory. A near-perfect routine resulted in a meet-high score 9.925 to secure the win.
In addition to her floor exercise title, McMillan tied for meet-high scores on uneven bars (9.850), balance beam (9.875) and in the all-around (39.500). The Coburg native ranks 20th in the nation and is fourth in the conference in the all-around and has won the floor exercise title in all six of the Beavers’ meets in 2017.
This is McMillan’s first career gymnast of the week honor and Oregon State’s 27th all-time.
No. 12 OSU travels this week for the first of back-to-back road trips to the Bay Area to face No. 18 California on Saturday. The Beavers will then face Stanford on Friday, Feb. 24.
OSU’s next home meet is slated for Sunday, March 5, against Washington.
