FAIRFAX, Calif. — The Oregon State men's golf team is tied for ninth place after the first 36 holes of the 16-team Alister MacKenzie Invitational, being played at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, California.
OSU compiled a 3-under-par 565 with rounds of 280 and 285. The Beavers are tied with Fresno State and San Jose State heading into the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Host California leads with a 29-under-par 539.
Freshman Spencer Tibbits shot two rounds of 3-under 68 and leads the Beavers at 6-under 136. He is tied for ninth place in the 88-player field heading into Tuesday's round.
“We did some good things today,” OSU coach Jon Reehoorn said. “I saw some good things from everybody. On a course like this we can't make too many mistakes.
"We had too many three-putts. We need to clean those up. We need to keep things in perspective of what will be a long year.
"[Tuesday] will be another day and they all mean something when we are working hard to get that postseason bid at the end of the year.”
OSU's other scorers were Trevor Yu, tied for 37th with an even-par 142 (68-74); Shawn Lu, tied for 46th with a 2-over 144 (75-69); Jonas Liebach, tied for 57th with a 4-over 146 (72-74), and Kyosuke Hara, tied for 64th at 6-over 148 (72-76).
