Nya Buckner signed her national letter of intent with the Oregon State volleyball team on Wednesday, the first day athletes can sign.
Buckner, a native of Chandler, Arizona, joins the program from Hamilton High where she was twice chosen as the team’s most improved player. In 2016, Buckner helped lead her team to the state semifinal match.
Buckner, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter, was a first team all-state selection in 2016. She helped her Aspire VB club teams to fifth place finishes at the 2016 and ‘17 Girls Junior National Championships tournaments.
The beavers had three golfers sign on Wednesday: Carson Barry from Eagle, Idaho, Sean Kato from Redmond, Washington, and Nolan Thoroughgood from Victoria, B.C.
It’s the best class in program history based on the National Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings.
Barry is 46th on the 2018 Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings and 73rd overall. He won the 2016 5A high school state title and was the runner-up at the 2017 Idaho State Amateur.
Kato is 59th on the 2018 Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings and 110th overall. He won the 2017 WJGA State Championship by two strokes (72-65-68) and the 2017 AJGA ACDS/Ryan Moore Junior at Oakbrook by two strokes (64-70-68).
Thoroughgood is 70th on the 2018 Junior Golf Scoreboard Rankings and 129th overall. He became the youngest champion to win the British Columbia Amateur when he captured the 114th annual event at the age of 15.
