TEMPE, Ariz. — Junior Meehra Nelson threw seven innings of one-run ball and freshman Missy Nunes hit her second home run in as many games as the Oregon State softball team completed a sweep on Day 1 of the Kajikawa Classic with a 4-1 decision over Indiana.
Nelson (1-0) went the distance and struck out six, allowing only five hits and issuing two walks. Nunes skied her lone hit over the center field wall to lead off the sixth inning for the Beavers (2-0).
In the opener against Oklahoma State, freshman Mariah Mazon had seven strikeouts and the Beavers bested the Cowgirls 8-2.
Mazon had just two walks and allowed two runs.
The Beavers are back in action Saturday when they take on No. 22/19 BYU at 8:15 a.m. Oregon State will wrap up Day 2 with a contest against No. 25/25 Georgia.
