SAN FRANCISCO — Sophomore Paula Leblic scored the lone goal of the match as the Oregon State women's soccer team earned a 1-0 road victory over the University of San Francisco on Sunday afternoon.
The victory moves Oregon State head coach Linus Rhode past Steve Fennah to become the Beavers' career wins leader. Rhode, who has led the Beavers to three NCAA tournament appearances in his time as head coach, has notched 82 wins during his tenure.
"This was a very good win," Rhode said. "We played with a good balance of grit and quality on the ball against a very good USF team."
The Beavers (2-1-2) got off to a slow start in San Francisco, managing only two shots on goal in the first half. Leblic gave Oregon States the lead in the 76th minute, hammering home a rebound off a freshman midfielder Kaillen Fried corner kick.
Senior forward Emma Jones managed the only shot for the Beavers early on, stinging one off her left foot from 20 yards out in the seventh minute. On the backside of a steal, Jones followed that up with a shot from 25 yards out in the 25th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Bella Geist opened the second half with a big save in the 51st minute, after recording three saves in the first half.
The Beavers established a presence in the final third of their field in the second half, controlling the pace and play of the game. Oregon State finished the second half with five shots.
For a moment in the 82nd minute, it appeared as if the Dons had found an equalizer but the goal was waived off by an offside. There was a flurry of kicks in the final minutes of the match, but the Oregon State back line stood its ground to secure the second victory of the season.
Geist finished with five saves and recorded her third shutout of the season.
The Beavers return home on Friday for a matchup with Portland State.
