PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — For the second straight weekend, the Oregon State softball team rolled through the opposition unscathed.

With Saturday’s 9-1 victory over Georgia Tech in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, the Beavers have now won 11 straight.

Marina Demore went the distance at pitcher for OSU, allowing seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in seven innings.

Demore was one out away from a shutout but Georgia Tech’s Ashley Thomas collected an RBI single up the middle in the seventh. The game ended on the same play, however, with Dani Gilmore getting the ball in from center field for an out at home plate by catcher Ally Kutz.

OSU took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with two unearned runs. An error by Georgia Tech’s shortstop led to runs by Gilmore, who had drawn a walk, and Ashley Sanchez, who had reached earlier on an error.

In the fourth inning, the Beavers scored again on an unearned run. Lea Cavestany reached on an error and scored on a single up the middle by Hannah Bouska.

OSU added two more runs to its lead in the fifth off the bat of freshman Natalie Hampton. Liz Santana opened the inning with a double to left and Hampton followed with a two-run shot to right center.

Hampton now has eight home runs this season.

The Beavers went up 7-0 in the sixth on a two-RBI single by Santana. Gilmore, who had reached on a fielder’s choice, and Bouska, who had walked, scored.

OSU then went up 9-0 in the seventh. Cavestany singled and Bailee Niehus doubled. Bouska later hit a one-double to score Cavestany and Ya Garcia, who had re-entered the game as a pinch runner for Niehus.

Bouska finished 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Santana and Kutz had two hits apiece. Santana had three RBIs.

The Beavers (13-3) will next head to the Easton Invitational next Friday through Sunday in Fullerton, Calif.

At the tournament, OSU will face three Big Ten teams – Iowa, Northwestern and Indiana, along with Cal Poly and CSU Bakersfield.
