PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — The Oregon State softball team could not get going at the plate in a 9-3 loss to No. 11 Tennessee at the Mary Nutter Classic.
The Beavers (9-4) got a solo homer from McKenna Arriola but managed six hits for the game.
“Not our best game,” said OSU coach Laura Berg. “I wish we had hit the ball better and wish we had played better but we just didn’t play as well all the way around. The bats didn’t show up, the pitching didn’t show up and the defense didn’t show up.
"There were some bright spots, but it wasn’t enough.”
OSU trailed 3-2 going into the second but the Volunteers tacked on three runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Tennessee's pitching was on point throughout, shutting out the Beavers for five straight innings before OSU added one run in the bottom of the second.
OSU takes on another tough Southeastern Conference team on Saturday with a game against No. 6 Auburn at the tournament.
