The annual High Performance Meet and the Pacific-12 Conference Multi-Events Championships highlight the 2017 schedule for the Oregon State track & field team.
The High Performance Meet is scheduled for April 28-29, 2017, at the Whyte Track & Field Center. The distance, pole vault and hammer events will be contested on April 28; all other events will be held on April 29.
The Pac-12 pentathlon and heptathlon championships will be held May 6-7.
The Beavers are tentatively scheduled to open the indoor season on Jan. 27-28 at the Washington Invitational at the Dempsey Indoor Center in Seattle. The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships are Feb. 24-25, also at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
They open the outdoor campaign on March 17-18 at the Lewis & Clark Invitational in Portland. The Pac-12 Championships are May 12-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene; the NCAA West Regional is May 25-27 in Austin, Texas, followed by the June 7-10 NCAA Championships, also at Hayward Field.
Significant improvements will be made to the Whyte Track & Field Center for the upcoming season.
Additions include a video scoreboard; the hammer throw area; broadcast infrastructure and warm-up space on the back stretch, including a third pole vault runway (east and west) for competitions and practices; a third javelin runway to allow throwing into grass area of the hammer for practices and competitions; additional lane lines and starting lines for additional practices and prep for warmups off the straightway; and a distance plaza area.
The upgrades to allow hosting of the multi-events competition are part of Phase II of the donor-funded project to upgrade the Whyte Track & Field Center. The additional aspects of Phase II of a three-phase enhancement plan are the installation of grandstands, a press box, restrooms, concessions and other amenities. They will be completed as donations are secured.
