EUGENE - Oregon kept bringing the pressure, knowing - or better yet, believing - it would eventually get to USC quarterback Matt Barkley.
The Ducks sacked the Trojans' quarterback just once in the second half after catching him once in the first half of No. 10 Oregon's 47-20 win over No. 4 USC at Autzen Stadium.
But the pressure was more evident as the game moved along.
Barkley had less time to find receivers in the second half, and it led to the Trojans scoring just three points in the second half.
Barkley passed for 59 yards in the second half and finished 21 of 38 for 187 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He was 16 of 22 passing for 138 yards in the first half.
Oregon rotates nine defensive linemen, hoping to get an advantage in the second half of games.
"It's about wearing down," Oregon coach Chip Kelly said of his team's defensive effort against the Trojans. "We feel like our conditioning is at the top. We thought it was going to be a battle and we had to just keep battling. We felt eventually we would wear them down."
Oregon senior defensive end Will Tukuafu said his team got its second wind and got some help from the offense.
"When the offense puts points on the board, there's going to be holes in the coverage," Tukuafu said. "So as we continued to rush, holes started to open up. We just continued to fight."
Scorching notes
Oregon's offensive output produced several USC opponent marks to note.
The 613 total yards by the Ducks were the most against the Trojans since Notre Dame got 623 in 1946.
A USC opponent had not had two players rush for 100 yards in the same game - as Oregon's LaMichael James and Jeremiah Masoli did - since Kansas State in 2001.
The Ducks' 47 points were the most versus the Trojans since UCLA scored 48 in a double-overtime game in 1996. The Ducks' 391 rushing yards were the most against USC since Texas A&M got 391 in the 1977 Blue Bonnet Bowl.
Oregon's 47 points marked the most the Ducks have scored against the Trojans in the 56-game history of the series. The most the Ducks had previously scored in any game versus USC was 34, which happened twice.
Hard running freshman
James, a redshirt freshman running back, had yet another strong performance in a conference game.
He entered Saturday's game averaging 7.2 yards per carry against Pac-10 opponents this season.
James ended the game with 183 yards on 24 carries, good for a 7.6 average. He had nine first-half carries for 79 yards, an 8.8 average.
