The Corvallis Knights of the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League have signed former Corvallis High/Richey's Market player Jake Roy to the 2007 team.
He is a 5-foot-10, 200-pound catcher/outfielder who will play at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D., this year after spending the past two seasons at Linn-Benton.
He is the third player from Corvallis on the Knights, as he joins CHS grad Billy Clontz and Crescent Valley grad Brett Casey.
They played for Richey's Market and Casey is a redshirt freshman infielder on Oregon State's defending NCAA champions.
The Knights have also signed outfielder Braden Wells, an OSU junior from Glendale, Ariz., who played two seasons at Dixie State JC in St. George, Utah. He joins Casey, catcher Erik Ammon and pitcher Blake Keitzman and completes OSU's four-player complement, the most allowed from one team under NCAA rules governing sumer leagues.
The Knights announced their first five local sponsors: Wilson Motors of Corvallis; Dutch Bros; University Hero; the Holiday Inn Express and the Hilton Garden Inn.
Wilson Motors bought out Goss Stadium for the Aug. 1 game against the Kitsap (Wash.) BlueJackets. Free tickets will be available at the dealership, located at 1105 Northwest 5th Street, starting March 1.
Dutch Bros will be the Knights' general admission ticket-back sponsor; University Hero will be the team's youth baseball sponsor; the Holiday Inn Express will be the official hotel, and the Hilton Garden Inn will be the ticket-back sponsor for all reserved seats.
The Knights were relocated from Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham in November. They begin their first season in Corvallis on June 7 against the Southern Oregon RiverDogs in Medford. Their home opener is June 14 against the Bend Elks.
