High school coverage lacking

This opinion does not refer to any previous letter in the newspaper, but I just wanted to let you know how I feel and many others in the community.

We feel that you guys do not cover high school sports very well. And when you do it's about athletes from different towns. I do not like how all the newspapers combined, but since you guys do it, I think you should make a better effort at acknowledging more athletes of different sports.

I don't know how many times I have opened the newspaper to see another article about baseball or softball. Today was maybe the first article on girls golf, but look at those athletes - many of them are doing really well.

In track we have outstanding athletes in the area: Erin Crotty, Tessa Johnson, Joan Casey, Nicole Reinke, Katie Gallagher, and, yes, good athletes in the surrounding areas. Also, how many times have you had articles about girls tennis, and none about boys tennis.

The topic of discussion is how biased you guys are, toward sports. The 4x100 relay at CV has a chance of placing at state, but has there, or will there be, an article about them? I highly doubt it.

Just letting you know how I feel and speaking for many other concerned parents in the community.

Story on CV's Gable excellent

The story on Dave Gable (Mid-Valley Sports, May 14) was beautiful! And all true.

Dave has saved hundreds of kids. He's given them unique and valuable perspectives that will be passed to his students' students, friends and children. The impact on humanity is immeasurable. And there are dozens like Dave. I don't need to list them - the students ALL know who they are.

But instead of fostering these proven, extremely successful, super influences on our children, the school district would rather spend money and effort "bringing students more opportunities" by having teaching staff oversee graduate students supplying web content for online instruction. After all, there's nothing more to teaching than the lecture notes - right?

Get your stupid computer off the Educational Super Highway!

People like Dave Gable are where it's at!

Correction

A letter on last week's Sports Opinion page had the writer's incorrect first name and hometown. It was written by Geo. VanLeeuwen of Halsey. Mid-Valley Sports regrets the errors.
