BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Third baseman Doug Cherry drove in the Knights' only run in the third inning, but that was enough as Corvallis earned a 1-0 victory over Bellingham in a West Coast Collegiate Baseball League game at Joe Martin Field.
Corvallis starter Josh Osich struck out six, walked three and allowed three hits in six innings. Liam Baron allowed one hit in two innings before Taylor Starr picked up his fifth save of the season.
Catcher Alex Burg got the final out of the game, throwing out Pierce Rankin as the Bells second baseman tried to steal second.
The Knights (18-7) started the third inning with a flyout, then shortstop Richie Jimenez, the No. 9 hitter, doubled to left-center.
Jimenez moved to third on a wild pitch, then scampered home when Cherry reached base on a fielding error by Matt Argyropolous at third.
The Knights threatened again in the eighth and ninth innings.
In the eighth, Cherry had a two-out single to center, then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Bellingham reliever Brett Handy. Davis Duren drew a walk then stole second after Handy was relieved by Alex Besaw, who struck out Lotti to end the inning.
In the ninth, left fielder Billy Clontz drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on Adam Melker's sacrifice bunt. Dean Green was then intentionally walked after a flyout, but a strike out ended the threat.
Corvallis was held to five hits - two by right fielder Logan Lotti, including a double.
Bellingham drew 81 fans for the game.
Bells center fielder Jake Locker, who plays quarterback at the University of Washington, went 0-for-3.
The teams will meet again at 6:30 p.m. today.
