Oregon State will install a FieldTurf surface on the infield at Goss Stadium for the 2007 season, FieldTurf CEO John Gilman and OSU athletic director Bob De Carolis said Wednesday.

Completion of the project is scheduled for Feb. 1, 2007. OSU is scheduled to play its first game on the new surface on March 8 against Evansville.

It's the third FieldTurf installation at OSU, which also has the surface at Reser Stadium and the Truax Indoor Center.

"Having FieldTurf on our infield will open up a lot of options for us in terms of when we can practice, how we can practice and how we can schedule games on our home field," OSU baseball coach Pat Casey said.

"It creates a lot of possibilities that we might not have had before. Those are things that are going to help keep our program competitive on a national level in the future."

This will be the first synthetic surface at Goss Stadium. A permanent stadium was constructed in 1999, lights were added in 2002 and a new scoreboard was added after the 2006 season.

Further upgrades to the permanent grandstand are planned when the funds are raised.
