LONGVIEW, Wash. — The Corvallis Knights concluded a five-game road trip in fine style on Tuesday with a 4-0 victory over Cowlitz in a West Coast League game at David Story Field.

The Knights (6-4) swept the two-game series with the Black Bears (2-5) and finished the trip with a 2-3 record. They remained in second place in the West Division, 11/2 games behind Bend.

Starter Rob Dittrick (2-0) went six scoreless innings to extend his streak of consecutive shutout frames to 10 over his last two starts. He allowed four hits, struck out four, and walked one.

It was another strong outing for Dittrick, a 10-day signee from Pacific University who has made a strong case to remain with the club for an extended time. He’s 2-0 with a 1.62 ERA, and has not allowed a run in two of his three appearances.

Another Northwest Conference pitcher, Chris Bishop of Pacific Lutheran, finished up with three shutout innings for his first save. Bishop struck out two and allowed just one hit.

The Knights parlayed three hits and two errors into three runs in the third inning to build a lead Dittrick and Bishop would protect.

Corvallis got its final run scored on an error in the seventh.

Austin Barr and Nick Torres had two hits each for the Knights; Torres added his first RBI. It was the third straight multi-hit game for Barr, who is batting .450 with at least one hit in all five games he’s played.

The Knights open a three-game series against Walla Walla at 6:40 p.m. today at Goss Stadium. Cal Poly freshman Bryan Granger will make his Knights debut; Walla Walla’s starter is undetermined.

Also, the Knights have signed UC Riverside junior starter/reliever Mitch Patito for his third summer with the team. He was 3-4 with a 3.96 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 50 innings this spring for the Highlanders.

Patito was 1-1 with a 3.22 ERA and two saves in 15 games for the Knights in 2011. He was an honorable mention WCL all-star in 2010, when he went 0-0 with a 1.38 ERA and eight saves.
