PHILOMATH - David Sturner tossed a five-hitter and the Philomath High baseball team came away with a 5-0 nonleague win win over Elmira on Monday.
Sturner struck out five and walked one in picking up the shutout.
"It was an outstanding outing for him," PHS coach Terry Stephenson said. "He threw strikes and worked ahead in the count the entire game. He was never really in any trouble."
Kolt Gunter had a two-run double in the third inning to make it 3-0 and Kory Stueve and Ben Motter each had RBI hits in the fifth.
Philomath (3-2) is at Pleasant Hill on Saturday for a noon doubleheader.

PHILOMATH - Pitchers for the Philomath High softball team combined for 11 walks to give Cascade a 13-3 nonleague victory. Two errors led to nine unearned runs.
Grace Goodson went 2-for-3 and doubled in a run for the Warriors (1-2). Sadi Stouder was 2-2 and scored a run in her first varsity appearance.
