GRESHAM - Sweet Home senior Jeff Ecker finished his high school swimming career in fine fashion Saturday, taking home the state title in the 200 freestyle at the OSAA Class 3A/2A/1A swim meet at Mt. Hood Community College.

Ecker won the event with a time of 1 minute, 51.29 seconds. He also placed second in the 100 backstroke (56.81) a second behind La Grande's Matt Hibbert (55.30).

The Huskies boys finished fourth with 30 points. LaGrande took home the title with 63 followed by Seaside (49) and Junction City (44).

Sean Martin placed second in the 500 free (5:06.45) and Jeff Stratman was sixth (5:30.16) for the Huskies. Martin and Ecker joined Chris Borford and Chris Bate to finish fourth in the 400 free relay.

Philomath's Marissa Eng (1:02.85) came up short in the 100 butterfly, finishing just off the pace of Sherwood's Maria Erwin (1:02.30). Eng was third in the 50 free (25.92). Leigha Johnson was fourth (2:05.46) in the 200 free and sixth (5:48.10) in the 500 free for the Warriors.

Philomath finished fourth in the girls standings with 31 points, just behind North Bend (32). Sherwood won with 53 and Gladstone (41) was second.

Johnson and Eng combined with April Wren and Megan Eng to place second in the 200 free relay (1:48.29), just behind North Bend (1:47.81). Johnson, both Engs and Megan Cornelius were third in the 400 free relay.

Sweet Home's Dani Birky placed sixth (2:12.46) in the 200 freestyle.

CLASS 4A BOYS: Lebanon's Joe Andrews finished second in the 100 butterfly (52.32) and fourth in the 200 free (1:46.30) and South Albany's Daniel Swan was third in the 200 IM (2:00.70) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (53.92).

Crescent Valley's Blaine Kisler was sixth in the 100 butterfly (54.46) and edged teammate Carl Hickerson for fourth in the 100 back. Hickerson and Kisler were part of the Raiders' 200 medley relay that was disqualified in the consolation finals. Hickerson placed 11th in the 100 free (50.46).

Lebanon's Matt Nichols was 12th in the 200 IM and Corvallis' Matt Atkinson was 10th in the 100 breast (1:04.59).

Lebanon was 13th in the team standings with 35 points, CV (34) was tied for 14th with Sheldon with South Albany (22) tied for 19th and Corvallis (3) 33rd.

Lebanon's 400 free relay (3:25.19) was 10th and CV (3:29.21) was 12th.

CLASS 4A GIRLS: Lebanon's Cortnee Hanson won the consolation finals of the 500 free (5:13.77) to finish seventh overall and Corvallis' Malia Storie was eighth in the 100 back (1:00.31), edging South Albany's Megan Cassell (1:00.65).

Storie was 10th in the 200 IM (2:15.50) and helped the Spartans' 200 medley relay to 11th (1:58.79) and the 200 free relay (1:45.41) to 12th.

Corvallis finished 22nd in the team standings with 14 points with South Albany 27th (4).

Girls basketball

ADAIR VILLAGE - The Santiam Christian girls basketball team jumped out to a big lead and rolled to a 62-21 West Valley League playoff win over Gaston on Saturday.

The third-seeded Eagles (16-8) will travel to second seed Catlin Gabel on Tuesday.

Alesha Deesing had 13 points, 12 rebounds and five steals and Ashley Van Loon had 15 points and nine rebounds for SC.

JEFFERSON 42, CROW 41: At Crow, Amanda Hill and Heidi Baker combined for 10 points in the fourth quarter as Jefferson picked up the Trico League win Friday.

Hill scored 15 points to lead Jefferson (13-10, 8-8), including six in the back-and-forth fourth quarter. Baker chipped in 13, with four in the last period.

Jefferson rebounded from a poor second quarter with a 12-2 run in the third period to take a one-point lead.

The Lions play at Central Linn on Monday in a Trico League playoff game.
