ALBANY - South Albany's sagging defense required some adjustments and Maya Heck stepped forward to lead Corvallis High to a 4-0 victory over the Rebels on Tuesday in a Mid-Willamette Conference girls soccer game.

Heck recorded a hat trick, scoring the first three goals of the game for the Spartans (6-2-2, 2-0-1).

"We're used to teams pressuring us and they sagged off us," coach Dan Finnen said.

Because of South Albany's defense, it was difficult for the Spartans to get into any kind of consistent flow.

Nonetheless, Corvallis played most of the game in the Rebels' end of the field.

"In games sometimes you need that one player to step up and take over, and Maya did that tonight for us," Finnen said.

Corvallis hosts Woodburn on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
