It will be a busy week as regular seasons wind down and the postseason kicks into high gear for high school teams.
For what is thought to be the first time in close to three decades, all five of Crescent Valley's fall programs will be part of the postseason, athletic director Craig Ellingson said.
The Raiders' girls soccer and football teams are playing this week for Mid-Willamette Conference titles.
The girls soccer team hosts West Albany at 5:30 p.m. today and will wrap up the title with a win in regulation. Anything less and the Raiders will finish third.
A win in regulation will give the Raiders 18 points, the same as the Bulldogs. The teams would share the title, but CV would receive the top seed to the playoffs by virtue of its head-to-head win.
Corvallis, which has 17 points, will finish second if CV doesn't win in regulation, or third if it does.
In football, the Raiders and Bulldogs enter Friday's showdown at the Field of Dreams with identical 6-0 MWC marks.
Both teams will receive a bye in the first round of the 5A playoffs, but the conference champ appears to have a much better draw for it's opener.
The second seed is home against the second seed from the Northwest Oregon Conference. The top three teams in the conference - Hillsboro, Sherwood and Glencoe - are a combined 23-4 with only Hillsboro's 20-17 loss to West Albany coming outside of conference play.
Hillsboro is ranked No. 1, Sherwood No. 3 and Glencoe No. 7. West Albany is No. 2 and CV No. 6.
Also in football, CHS faces a win-or-go-home game against South Albany on Friday.
CHS, SA and Lebanon are all deadlocked at 3-3 and tied for third. Lebanon is in regardless of Friday's outcome against Dallas as the Warriors hold the tiebreaker against both SA and CHS.
That means the winner between CHS and SA is in. If Lebanon beats Dallas, the Warriors would finish third and the CHS-SA winner fourth.
Volleyball
The playoffs get underway this week with CHS and CV both in action on Wednesday.
The Spartans, who finished third in the MWC, will host Liberty at 7 p.m.
CHS is back in the playoffs after missing the past two seasons. Liberty placed fourth in the NWOC.
The Spartans have played Liberty this season, splitting two games in pool play at a tournament.
The winner advances to face Portland Interscholastic League champion Cleveland on Saturday for a trip to the quarterfinals.
CV, which placed fourth in the MWC, travels to Mountain View, which was third in the Intermountain Conference, for a 6 p.m. match.
In the Oct. 26 coaches poll, Mountain View was sixth, while the Raiders were 10th. That winner travels to No. 3 Ashland on Saturday.
MWC champ Silverton hosts Crook County, second from the IMC, on Saturday while West Albany (second in the MWC) is at Crater (second in the Southern Oregon Conference) on Saturday.
Silverton was ranked fourth with Crook County second in the Oct. 26 poll.
Boys soccer
CV will open the playoffs at home on Friday or Saturday as the third seed from the MWC. The Raiders, who were ranked fifth in the Oct. 26 coaches poll, will face The Dalles-Whatonka at CV either at 3 p.m. on Friday or 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Dalles-Whatonka placed fourth in the IMC 15 4-2-1 and is 9-3-2 overall.
Cross country
CV's girls cross country team dominated the MWC district meet at Crystal Lake on Saturday and appear to be one of the favorites at the state meet this Saturday at Lane Community College.
Comparing times from the district meets, which are run on different courses, the Raiders' biggest test may come from Summit, which won the IMC district meet.
The Raiders' boys will also be at the state meet as will the CHS boys.
West Albany's girls edged CHS by two points to advance.
