MONMOUTH - Crescent Valley High had three of the top four finishers in the girls 3,000-meter run at Tuesday's Mid-Willamette Conference district track and field meet at Western Oregon University.
CV's Amelia Yeager won in a time of 10 minutes, 45.80 seconds to earn a berth in next weekend's 5A state meet at Hayward Field in Eugene. Corvallis High's Jen Johnson placed second in 10:49.60 to qualify for state, as the top two finishers in each event advanced.
CV's Mackenzie Entrikin was third (10:53.80) and Sara Auer fourth (11:06.30).
Corvallis' Anthony Emmons won the discus with a throw of 166 feet, two inches.
CV's Jeff Borgerson placed second in the high jump with a mark of 6-2. Teammate Alex Kovac was third at 6-0.
CHS's Brad Nelson was second (9:11.66) and CV's Lindon Powell was fifth (9:38.52) in the 3,000.
CV's Doug Pentland was second in the pole vault at 12-0.
CV's Janelle Batista placed fifth in the javelin (112-10) and Rachel Rausch was sixth in the long jump (14-113/4). CHS's Michaela Armstrong was sixth in the shot put (31-23/4).
The finals in all track events except for the 3,000 will take place today.
Baseball
ALSEA - Andy Marin scattered five hits and Alsea scored in every inning en route to an 11-1 victory over Oakridge in a Special District 3 playoff game.
The Wolverines (16-3) secured no less than the No. 2 seed to the 2A/1A state playoffs with the win.
They play at Lowell today for the top seed from the district. Oakridge advances to state as the No. 3 seed.

ADAIR VILLAGE - Michael Parkhurst laid down an unexpected squeeze bunt as Ryan Hansen tried to steal home to lift the Eagles to the nonconference victory.
Parkhurst was to fake bunt on the play, but wound up tapping the ball past the defense for a game-winning RBI single.
Santiam Christian (21-4) gave up seven runs in the final two innings to enter the bottom of the seventh trailing by one.
The Eagles will play the West Valley League's No. 4 team in the 3A playoffs on Tuesday.

Softball
INDEPENDENCE - Kaylene Hannaway batted 2-for-3 for Philomath, but the Warriors couldn't match Central's run production in a 9-5 Val-Co League loss.
Philomath (8-12, 4-8) had runners on second and third when the game ended on a strikeout.
"There were a lot of throwing errors," PHS coach Dave Dunham said. "Both teams were hitting the ball hard."
The loss ended the season for the Warriors, while Central advances to the state playoffs.

ADAIR VILLAGE - Kiersten Hendrix singled, doubled and homered while driving in five runs as Santiam Christian claimed the nonconference victory.
The Eagles (18-4) had 18 hits with half coming from Hendrix, Courtney Towery and Maridith Durbin. All three batted 3-for-4.
Kalyssa Koontz (16-4) struck out 13, walked three and scattered five hits while keeping her ERA below 1.0.
The Eagles will open the 3A state playoffs next Tuesday against the No. 4 team from the West Valley League.
