SALEM - Thomas McCarthy had five doubles and hit 7 of 9 as Crescent Valley High collected 25 hits in a doubleheader sweep of McNary on Monday in nonconference baseball action.

The Raiders (2-4) won the first game 19-6 in six innings, then took the second 10-5.

Josh Liebeskind and Jake Likewise both tripled in the first game, while McCarthy had four of his doubles. That trio combined for nine RBIs, Liebeskind getting five.

In the second game, McCarthy had three RBIs and Likewise two.

"Our bats came alive in a big way," CV coach David Mintken said. "We knew with our lineup that they were going to at some point. (Monday) they really came alive and we played really solid defense behind some great pitching."

Crescent Valley plays at South Eugene on Friday.

The Spartans rallied from a big early deficit to take the lead, but couldn't hold on in the nonconference loss at Taylor Field.

Century's Cody Butcher delivered a one-out, two-run double in the seventh to win the game.

"We didn't manage the game very well and therefore put ourselves in a tight spot at the end and weren't able to finish it," CHS coach Eric Dazey said.

Trailing 6-3, the Spartans (5-2) put together six consecutive hits to score four runs and take the lead in the bottom of the fifth.

Corvallis' Nate Williams had a solo home run in the game.

The Spartans host Benson on Wednesday.

Softball

BEND - The Crescent Valley softball team dropped two games on Monday at Summitt High School.

The Raiders (3-3, 2-1) lost 8-6 to Beaverton in their first contest, then dropped a 2-1 decision to Valley Catholic in the second.

Aryn Grause had four hits, including two triples, between the two games to top CV's offense.

Beaverton's Madeline Evans and Valley Catholic's Tara Baglai both hit home runs.

The Raiders play twice today at Mt. View High. The first game is at 10:30 a.m.
